Accessibility Improvements Across Your Site
We recently completed a comprehensive accessibility audit of the Exposure platform, and we’ve been busy implementing the results. Our goal is to make Exposure the most accessible photo storytelling platform available, and we’re committed to keep pushing until we get there.
What’s new:
-
Dedicated Accessibility Page: Every Exposure site now has an
/accessibilityroute that explains your site’s accessibility features to visitors. It’s styled with your custom branding and includes keyboard shortcuts, commitment details, and contact info. -
Smarter AI Alt Text: Our AI-powered alt text generation is now more comprehensive. It follows WCAG guidelines more closely, providing better descriptions that include context, mood, and composition details for screen reader users.
-
Story Map Accessibility: The Story Map feature now includes skip links, screen reader announcements, and full keyboard navigation. Use arrow keys to browse stories and Enter to select a random one. (Side note: we fixed a few bugs here 🐛)
-
Better Focus Management: Improved focus indicators, modal focus trapping, and proper ARIA labels across forms, toggles, and navigation elements.
Keyboard shortcuts on Story Maps:
←/→orA/D— Browse previous/next storyEnterorSpace— Jump to random storyEsc— Close popup
Respects preferences: Exposure now honors the “prefers-reduced-motion” system setting, disabling animations for visitors who need it.
