Pausing a Subscription
Need a break? You can pause an eligible monthly plan for 30, 60, or 90 days. Your pause starts when your current paid period ends, so you keep the time you have already paid for.
Schedule a pause
Section titled “Schedule a pause”- Open Settings > Plans and billing.
- Under Pause your plan, choose an available duration. The dates are shown next to each choice.
- Read and select the payment agreement, then choose Schedule pause and confirm.
You can use up to 90 pause days per calendar year, across one or more pauses. A pause that crosses January 1 uses the allowance for each year. The page shows the choices available to your account.
If no pause is available, contact us. Yearly plans and some special plans cannot use this feature.
What happens during a pause?
Section titled “What happens during a pause?”Your public site and published stories stay online. You can edit drafts, but you cannot publish new stories or change published stories during the pause. Your stories are not deleted.
We stop subscription charges during the pause. Billing resumes automatically when the pause ends. We send a reminder at least 7 days before the automatic charge. If we cannot send the reminder, the pause stays in place until we can give you that notice.
When payment is confirmed, publishing and editing of published stories become available again.
Change your mind?
Section titled “Change your mind?”Before the pause starts, use Withdraw scheduled pause in Plans and billing. Your normal billing schedule continues.
During a pause, use Resume and pay to resume early. You will see a payment estimate and must confirm the charge. Your next billing period starts when you resume.
If a resume payment fails, your site stays public for up to 14 days while payment is retried. Publishing and changes to published stories stay locked until payment is confirmed. Use Manage billing to check your card.
Cancel instead
Section titled “Cancel instead”Use Start cancellation in Plans and billing and finish the steps in Stripe. Just opening Stripe does not cancel your plan.
If you cancel before a scheduled pause starts, you keep access until your paid period ends. If you cancel during an active pause, automatic resume stops and your site stays public until the original pause end. If that date has already passed because a reminder was delayed, cancellation ends the extra access.
