Offer a story in multiple languages

Offer one story in more than one language with Manage Languages. Each version has its own text and link. Readers can switch languages from the story.

Choose from 23 automatic translation languages or 82 manual language choices. The complete lists show which option supports your language.

Story languages are included with current Business plans, Business trials, and Business Gifted accounts. Legacy Business and promo plans do not include this feature. On other plans, the panel shows Upgrade now, which opens billing in a new tab. Legacy Business accounts also see a note below the buttons. Existing language content is kept if your Business access ends, but readers can only access the default version.

Set the default language for new stories

Open Settings → Site Preferences and find Account Language below Site Type. Choose one of the languages supported by Auto translate, then select Save changes.

New stories use this language. Existing stories and the dashboard language do not change. You can correct the source language in Manage Languages before you add the first translation.

Choose Auto-detect from each story to let Exposure suggest a language from the saved story text instead. Check the suggestion before you translate.

Account Language is hidden on other plans, including legacy Business and Pro Plus. If your Business access ends, Exposure keeps the saved preference but does not use it for new stories.

Add languages

Open your story in edit mode.
Select Options → Manage Languages.
Check Language of this version. Exposure can suggest a language from your saved story text. Confirm or change it before you continue.
Choose the languages you want to add. With Auto translate on, select up to 11 at a time. Use Search language to find a language by name.
Leave Auto translate on to create translated drafts, then select Add languages.
Wait for Draft Ready, open the language with Edit Language, and review the text.

The source is the version you translate or copy from. Existing versions are skipped, so adding a language does not replace a draft you already have.

Write a language version yourself

Turn Auto translate off. Under Start with, choose:

Copy this version to copy the story, then replace its text with your translation.
Start blank to write a new version.
Link an existing story if you already have a separate story in that language.

The manual picker has 82 language choices. This includes the 23 languages supported by automatic translation. You can select several languages when copying or starting blank. Link an existing story to one language at a time.

When linking, search for the story by title and choose it from Existing story to link. Linking keeps its URL and history. Its access settings must match. Only select Let the linked story use this story’s site visibility if you want that visibility to change.

Manage saved versions

Each language has a status under its name. Ready versions appear before unfinished versions and languages you have not added.

Source language identifies the version you are working from.
Translating means the version is still being prepared or translated.
Draft Ready means you can open and review the draft. It is not published yet.
Published means that version has been published.
Translation failed shows a Retry button instead of the normal actions.

Use Edit Language to open a ready version, Copy Language Link to copy its link, or Remove Language to remove it. Read the removal message before you confirm. Deleting a non-default language returns you to the default story. Deleting the default story removes the whole story and its language versions.

Change the cover

Change the cover layout, upload a cover photo or video, or adjust the photo’s focal point from any language version to apply that change to all active language versions of the story. The Two Fold fixed and scroll options also apply to all versions. Removing a cover video removes it from all versions.

Wait until copying and translation finish before you change the shared cover. If work is still in progress, Exposure shows a message.

Language text and custom link share images stay separate for each version.

What readers see

The language selector appears below the cover and stays at the top when readers scroll past the cover. The current language is bold. On phones, tapping the selector opens the device’s language list.

Reader controls also use the story’s language, including the Enjoy button, Subscribe options, and the byline.

Public readers see published versions. A shared draft preview includes other completed language drafts. In edit mode, the selector opens Manage Languages instead of switching versions.

Move from a previous workaround
