Translate a story and fix translation problems
Auto translate creates language drafts for you to review. It translates the title, headings, body text, captions, and alt text. Photos and section order stay the same.
Automatic translation is included with current Business plans, Business trials, and Business Gifted accounts. Legacy Business and promo plans do not include this feature. Review each result before publication, especially names, facts, specialist terms, and text in photos. Text inside an image is not translated.
Exposure has 23 automatic translation choices and 82 manual language choices. The manual list includes all 23 automatic choices.
Supported automatic translations
Section titled “Supported automatic translations”See the complete list of 23 automatic translation languages in Offer a story in multiple languages. Account Language uses the same list.
Start a translation
Section titled “Start a translation”- Open Options → Manage Languages.
- Check Language of this version. If Exposure suggests a language, check that it is correct. If it cannot detect the language, select it yourself.
- Leave Auto translate on.
- Select up to 11 target languages under Choose languages.
- Select Add languages.
Exposure saves your story before translation starts. If saving fails, fix the save problem and try again. Languages that already have versions are skipped.
The limit of 11 target languages applies to each batch, not to the total number of language versions for a story. You can run one translation batch at a time per account. Wait for it to finish, or cancel it, before starting another batch. You can add more languages in a later batch.
The source version is locked while translation runs. Other language versions remain editable. Each target language shows Translating, then Draft Ready when it is complete.
Review a completed translation
Section titled “Review a completed translation”Use Edit Language beside a Draft Ready version. Check the title, headings, body, captions, and alt text. Make corrections and save them before publication.
A completed translation stays a draft until you publish it. Later edits to one language’s text do not automatically update the other languages. Check those versions when you change the meaning or facts of a story.
If translations are busy
Section titled “If translations are busy”If you see “Translations are busy. Please try again in a few minutes,” wait a few minutes and try again. Your existing language drafts stay available.
Retry a failed translation
Section titled “Retry a failed translation”If a translation fails, an app message appears and the language row shows Translation failed with a Retry button.
- Open Manage Languages.
- Find the failed language and select Retry.
- Follow any confirmation shown.
- Wait for Draft Ready, then review the result.
A retry uses the original source. If you changed that source after the failed attempt and retry is blocked, contact support with the language and error message. Do not delete a version to troubleshoot without first keeping any text you need.
If Exposure cannot confirm the result of an earlier attempt, it asks before starting another one. If the panel says translation status is unavailable, select Check again before editing or starting another translation.
Cancel a translation
Section titled “Cancel a translation”Select Cancel translation in Manage Languages. Completed language drafts stay available. Remaining work stops, and the source becomes editable again.
Publish after review
Section titled “Publish after review”The publish check warns you if languages are still translating or have failed. They are not included in publication. Wait and review them if you want all languages to go live together.
See publish and share language versions for the complete publish and draft-preview flow.
All manual language choices
Section titled “All manual language choices”See all 82 manual language choices. Turn Auto translate off to write, copy, or link a version yourself. Choosing a language does not translate the text.
Need another language?
Section titled “Need another language?”If your language is missing, or you need automatic translation for a manual-only choice, contact us. Tell us which language you need and whether you want automatic translation or a version you will write yourself.
Need help?
Section titled “Need help?”Use the Exposure contact form. Include the language and error message. Do not send your password or a private draft link unless support asks for it.
