Automatic alt text for every paid plan

By Luke Beard

Exposure now writes alt text for your photos on every paid plan. Alt text is the description that screen readers read aloud and that search engines use to understand your photos.

  • Pro, Pro Plus, and free trials get a short description of each photo, in one sentence.

  • Business gets a detailed description of each photo, and a caption for a looping cover video.

AI describes each new photo a short time after you upload it. Photos that you uploaded before do not change. If you would like your account backfilled, please let us know!

Your own words come first. AI never replaces alt text that you write, edit, or clear, or alt text from your photo files. The story editor tells you which text AI wrote, so you can check it and edit it.

Automatic alt text is on by default. You control it in Settings โ†’ AI Powers. There you can also delete all AI alt text from your photos in one step.

To write the text, Exposure sends your photo to an AI model through OpenRouter, only to providers that do not keep your data and may not train on it: Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Amazon Bedrock for short descriptions.
