# How We Handle Failed Payments

Source: https://support.exposure.co/en/articles/3789512-how-we-handle-failed-payments/

If we can’t collect payment for either your monthly or yearly renewal, the following 5-week process starts:

## Week 1-3: Grace Period

There is a 3-week window to update your [payment card details](<https://support.exposure.co/en/articles/2350611-updating-adding-your-payment-card-or-billing-method/>). During this time you will receive a steady stream of emails asking you to update your payment details.

Updating your card details and allowing us to process your payment will restore your account instantly.

## Week 3-5: Site Suspended

After 3 weeks, your Exposure site is suspended and your stories and site won’t be publicly accessible.

Updating your payment details during this period will un-suspend your site instantly.

## After Week 5: Subscription Canceled

If we are still unable to collect payment for a further 2 weeks, your subscription is canceled automatically. Your stories become **temporarily unavailable** and plan-related features are disabled (custom domains, story passwords, etc.).

**Important:** We don’t delete your site or stories. If you choose to become a paying subscriber again, your stories will **automatically become available** — no manual republishing required. Your original publish dates are preserved.
