Embedding Content in Your Stories

Written by Luke Beard

Embedding Content in Your Stories

Add YouTube videos, social media posts, music, and more directly into your photo stories.

Overview

Exposure lets you bring in content from around the web and place it right inside your stories. Want to include a YouTube video, a tweet, an Instagram post, or a SoundCloud track alongside your photos? Just paste the link and Exposure takes care of the rest.

You can even place up to 3 embeds side by side in a single block to create rich, multimedia layouts.

Supported Platforms

You can embed content from any of these platforms by pasting a link:

Platform

What You Can Embed

YouTube

Videos, Shorts

Vimeo

Videos

Twitter / X

Tweets, threads

Instagram

Photos, Reels, carousels

Facebook

Public posts

SoundCloud

Tracks, playlists

How to Embed Content

Step 1: In the story editor, click the Embed button in the toolbar at the bottom of your screen.

Step 2: Paste the URL of the content you want to embed into the input field. For example:

Step 3: Click the Embed Post button.

That's it! Exposure will fetch the content and display it in your story. You'll see a preview right away in the editor, and it will appear fully rendered when your story is published.

Placing Multiple Embeds Side by Side

You can add up to 3 embeds in a single block and they'll appear next to each other on desktop screens.

To add multiple embeds:

  1. Click the Embed button

  2. Paste your first URL

  3. Click + Add another embed (up to 3) to add a second (or third) URL field

  4. Paste your additional URLs

  5. Click Embed Posts

You can remove any URL by clicking the X button next to it.

How the Layout Works

Number of Embeds

Desktop Layout

Phone / Tablet

1 embed

Centered on the page

Full width

2 embeds

Two columns, side by side

Stacked on top of each other

3 embeds

Three columns, side by side

Stacked on top of each other

On smaller screens, embeds always stack vertically so everything remains easy to read and interact with.

Mix and Match

You can combine different platforms in the same block. For example, you could place a YouTube video next to a tweet, or show three Instagram posts side by side. Any combination works.

Smart Paste

Have a list of URLs ready? You can paste multiple links all at once.

If you copy two or three URLs from a document, email, or spreadsheet and paste them into any embed input field, Exposure will automatically detect the separate URLs and create individual fields for each one — saving you time.

Editing or Changing Embeds

Already added an embed and want to change it?

  1. Click the Edit Embed button that appears when you hover over the embed block

  2. Your current URLs will already be filled in

  3. Change any URL, add new ones, or remove existing ones using the X button

  4. Click Embed Posts to save your changes

Width Options

Embed blocks support two width settings, which you can toggle in the top-left corner of the block:

  • Standard — The embed sits within the normal story width

  • Full Width — The embed stretches edge to edge across the page

Custom HTML Embed

Business plan users have an additional option: embedding custom HTML code directly.

  1. Click the Embed button

  2. Switch to the Embed Your Own Code tab

  3. Paste your HTML embed code (e.g., from a mapping tool, chart builder, or any platform that provides embed code)

  4. Click Embed Post

This is useful for content from platforms that aren't in the supported list above.

Note: Custom HTML embeds support a single embed per block (multi-embed is for URL embeds only).

Tips for Great Embeds

  • YouTube & Vimeo videos automatically maintain their correct proportions (widescreen 16:9 ratio)

  • Social media posts (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) display at their native sizes and are interactive — readers can like, share, or follow directly from your story

  • SoundCloud tracks appear as a compact audio player that readers can play inline

  • Keep it focused — 1-2 embeds per block usually looks best; use 3 columns when you want to showcase a set of related content

  • Preview your story before publishing to make sure embeds look the way you expect

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many embed blocks can I add to a story? A: As many as you like! Each block can hold up to 3 URL embeds.

Q: Can I embed private or unlisted content? A: It depends on the platform. YouTube unlisted videos and public Instagram posts will work. Private content that requires a login generally cannot be embedded.

Q: Why does my embed look plain in the editor but rich on the published story? A: Social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook use special scripts to render their posts with full styling. These scripts run fully on your published story. In the editor, you may see a simplified preview — this is normal.

Q: Can I resize embeds? A: Embeds automatically size themselves based on the content. You can switch between standard and full-width layout for the overall block, but individual embed sizing is handled by each platform.

Q: Will embeds slow down my story? A: Embeds load on demand as readers scroll to them, so they won't slow down your initial page load. However, adding many embeds (10+) to a single story may affect performance on slower connections.

Q: What if a platform removes the original content? A: If the original post, video, or track is deleted by its author, the embed will show an error or placeholder message. The rest of your story won't be affected.

Q: Do embeds work when my story is shared via email to subscribers? A: Email clients don't support embedded media. Subscribers will see your story content and a link to view the full story on your site, where embeds will work normally.

Q: Can I track how many people watch my embedded videos? A: Yes! Business plan users get Video Play Tracking for YouTube and Vimeo embeds. See our Video Play Tracking guide for details.
